If you are Arrested
1. Never Argue with the Police
2. You have many rights as a citizen of the United States, and you also have responsibilties. You must be helpful to the police, but you never are required to incriminate yourself.
3. In spite of what you may have seen on television, the real police do not act like the actors on a TV series.
4. Plain English (what you think you mean) and the "Legal Meaning" of your words may be two different things.
5. It is not an admission of guilt to ask for the assistance of a lawyer if you are being questioned.
6. A lawyer will know the "legal meaning" of any questions you are asked and any responses you may give.
7. One thing you have seen on TV is true--if you cannot affort to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed to assist you.
