If you are involved in an accident:
1. Three Basic Rules -- Remain Calm. Do not admit fault to anyone. Do not sign anything.
2. Do not move the car.
3. Get names and phone numbers of any witnesses
4. Take pictures of the accident and any other relevant things (for example the road condition if the road is snow covered). It is always a good idea to have a disposable camera in your car glove compartment.
5. Call the police. Even if it looks minor to you with little damage and no-one hurt, their report will confirm that. Make sure you get the card (or at least name and badge number) of the reporting officer. If the officer asks you to move the car, you can do so.
6. If you, or any of your passengers, are injured, ask for medical assistance. The police officer can help get you emergency medical help.
7. If the accident is serious or there are any injuries, it is wise to call an attorney as soon as possible.
